2008 Genealogy Trip

La Région de Lanaudière

I told Dad that it was my turn to write, so today’s posting is from Mom.
Again, the weather could not have been more beautiful if we had ordered it ourselves. Our hostess at Gites sous les Frenes is so kind and gave us yet another interesting breakfast–an omelette with cheese and apples accompanied with toast, [...]

La Région de Montérégie

Today was a beautiful day in Montreal, bright sunny skies and warm temps (it got up to about 75′ F).  We had a wonderful breakfast at our B&B.  The proprietor fixed us fresh orange juice, french toast using three different kinds of local varieties of bread, fresh diced fruit, and yogurt or maple syrup for [...]

Burlington – Longueuil (Montreal)

The day began with Dad submitting a nasty review on the Web page for our Burlington motel.  It won’t help us, but maybe others will avoid the place.
We had breakfast at a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts store.  Tasty donuts, but not as good as Krispy Kreme.  We then found a gas station and filled up before [...]

Winooski-St Albans

A nice mid-morning start to today’s activities after an in-room breakfast of cranberry nut bread, yogurt and a cup of lukewarm hot chocolate.  Beautiful weather again today with temps reaching into the mid 60s, clear and sunny skies, and very little wind.
We began our activities in the Burlington “Free Library” to check city directories and [...]

Stowe-Royalton/Sharon

Today, Sunday, began under cloudy skies that appeared to be threatening rain.  Since no administrative offices were open to help us with research info and questions, we spent the day visiting tourist attractions.
Our first stop was Stowe, Vermont, home of the Austrian-style mountain lodge built and originally occupied by the von Trapp family portrayed in [...]

Plattsburgh to Burlington

NOSTALGIA – If you want a dose, read through this report by the chauffeur.
Day 6, Saturday, began with an early morning wake up call by the alarm clock so we could make the first ferry from NY to Vermont.  No traffic on the state highway bordering Lake Champlain, so we made our drive from Plattsburgh [...]

Day 5: Plattsburgh, NY

We started out today at the Plattsburgh School District. Spoke with a very nice lady names Mary Huckabe who is the district clerk. She tried to be helpful, but as I am so slow to learn, calling ahead and making arrangements in advance is the best way to do family history on site.
Mary gave us [...]

Plattsburgh, NY

Today was a genealogy day and while Dad and I did work at my genealogy, we did not get too far, but that is to be expected when I have already combed all the existing sources and am hoping to find something unusual to help me discover Joseph Massé’s origins.
Met Glora Cusson Pratt today and [...]

To Plattsburgh via Lake Placid, New York

Today was a travel day. We left Latham (Albany), New York, this morning and drove through the Adirondaks to Lake Placid. Actually, the town of Lake Placid is on Mirror Lake. We did not go far enough to see the actual Lake Placid, but found Mirror Lake to be beautiful.
The colors are just beginning to [...]

Troy, NY

Today’s report is from the chauffeur/gofor.
After a delicious (?) continental breakfast at our hotel, we drove to downtown Troy to find the city library where we would begin our search for maternal ancestors who once lived in the area. Narrow one-way streets greeted us when we left the state highway, but we finally found the [...]
