DAY 21 – British Columbia-Home

We both had a restless night due to our concern for our delayed schedule, and also the noise of the railway workers as they cleaned car windows and performed other services @ about 2:30 am (PDT) when we stopped in Kamloops, British Columbia.
When we awoke and finally got up, we learned that we’d made up [...]

DAY 19 – Some where in Saskatchewan or Manitoba (still on the train)

Not much to report today. After a harrowing night aboard our berths dealing with the constant rocking of the train, we awoke to partly cloudy skies and sunshine.  We passed through Ontario province during the night and maybe all of Saskatchewan province, but it’s difficult to tell where you are.  We have a map, but [...]

DAY 20 – still on the train, some where in Alberta

We slept much better last night; probably due to smoother and straighter rails. I awoke at 5:30 am (local time – CDT) and decided to get up and shower and get ready for the day. Mom followed shortly afterward.

We had an early breakfast so we could take advantage of the lack of crowds in the [...]

DAY 18 – Toronto-Westward (on the train)

This is being written on Day 18, but won’t be posted until we complete our trip because there is no Internet access on the train.

We were up early (6:00 am) so we could walk to the train station rather than use a taxi (when we walked yesterday we discovered that the station was only three [...]

DAY 16 – Québec City – Toronto

The chauffeur is back but has been replaced.  Remember the Greyhound Bus Line ad “Take the bus and leave the driving to us!”?  Well, we took the train (Canada Rail) and left the driving to someone else for only the second day since Sept. 15th, and it was wonderful.  My feet were even asking me [...]

Québec City

A rude awakening this morning at about 4:00 am!  We thought we were the only guests in the motel, but some French-Canadian men were housed in rooms just down the hall from us.  They arrived back from some where in the middle of the night and decided to have a conversation in the hallway.  I [...]

Trois-Rivières

Sorry this is a day late, but we had no internet access last night.
Day 13 wasn’t a bad day considering the crummy weather(the first of our trip).
We began with a delicious breakfast cooked by our hostess at the B&B.  We had fresh diced fruit, fresh orange juice, and french toast smothered with apple slices; pure [...]

La Région de Montérégie

Today was a beautiful day in Montreal, bright sunny skies and warm temps (it got up to about 75′ F).  We had a wonderful breakfast at our B&B.  The proprietor fixed us fresh orange juice, french toast using three different kinds of local varieties of bread, fresh diced fruit, and yogurt or maple syrup for [...]

Burlington – Longueuil (Montreal)

The day began with Dad submitting a nasty review on the Web page for our Burlington motel.  It won’t help us, but maybe others will avoid the place.
We had breakfast at a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts store.  Tasty donuts, but not as good as Krispy Kreme.  We then found a gas station and filled up before [...]

Winooski-St Albans

A nice mid-morning start to today’s activities after an in-room breakfast of cranberry nut bread, yogurt and a cup of lukewarm hot chocolate.  Beautiful weather again today with temps reaching into the mid 60s, clear and sunny skies, and very little wind.
We began our activities in the Burlington “Free Library” to check city directories and [...]
