Honestly, We Can Do Better. . .

The other day in the office I had a discussion with a colleague of mine that I thought we should write at a level understandable and discernible by readers. In my introductory journalism class we were taught to write at a ninth grade level; that said, I believe the Wall Street Journal is written for a more educated audience (I have a degree and it doesn’t make sense to me!).
While in this state of mind, I came across a digital road construction sign that informed me, “Caution, Road Clossure Ahead.” Seriously, we can do better than this. I don’t care if you have a Ph.D. or a certificate in welding from a vocational school, there is no excuse for that misspelling. If you don’t know, ask someone, in my opinion that mistake represents the city as a whole.
My Two Cents: Society and life are getting too easy, everything has a remote control, spell check is nice, but shouldn’t replace a basic skill we all should have. Never more than today has America been a land of opportunity, not just business, everyone has the opportunity to get educated.
