Marketing: Could you promote your competition. . .and win?

Get a Mac commercialI guess Steve Jobs is a pretty gutsy guy–ask the folks at Cisco how brave he is! Anyway, the iPhone isn’t Steve’s only daring work, have you noticed one of his most recent ads for Macs? Now I must say, as my colleagues pointed out, the commercial is a bit over the top and Mac ads aren’t exactly designed for the die hard PC lover.

With that said, I must say that running an ad where you actually tell–all things considered–your customers to buy the competition shows some guts. Apple can do it because they are a strong, and I mean strong brand. As Steve Jobs stated in his Keynote address at Macworld a couple of weeks ago, something like 50% of new macs are purchased by switch over customers! That’s impressive.

My Two Cents: I like the Mac ads, they are funny.
